Amazing to think the united states accomplished the 4×100 relay world record in the fashion they did lastnight in Beijing…best finish you’ve ever seen in any sport, period. Even the announcers were astonished at the Gold rather than Silver for team USA.. Michael Phelps may be savoring the moment as he goes for 8 gold medals during these games.

I ran into former roundballer Dan Roundfield at the airport in Atlanta. The former Hawk and Pistons star is now a business development manager. You better remember how good he was on the court in his old hoops days…

What a guy, Larry Winter is the President of the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame…started in five years ago and was kind enough to ask me to be a part of the Advisory board. In his first year he inducted such Atlanta Sports notables as Dominique Wilkins, Hank Aaron, Tommy Nobis, Evander Holyfield, and Wyomia Tyus…taking this photo at the Atlanta Touchdown Club annual golf tournament was an honor for me. Larry is one of those rare guys who has developed something for the community in a selfless manner…wait toill you hear who went into this year’s Atlanta Sports Hall of fame..

So I mosey on over to Falcons QB and former Bulldog lead man, DJ Shockley and ask him what his handicap is, he stops and says , 45 with a big grin…cool I have finally found someone who’s golf game parallels mine..nahh, of course he’s better than that–and sure is better than that on the football field–always felt like he was a star at Georgia…great foot speed and arm strength to elude the defenders…should get his chance with the Falcons this year if,

You want to see imoprovement in a college player, look no futher than LSU’s senior center Chris Johnson…dare you to go to the stats on this guy and look up how many points he scored as a freshman, Soph, and then a Junior last year. If you’re not convinced after checking out the numbers that this guy will play professional ball somewhere you’re not a true hoops junkie. 11 points a game last year as a Junior compared to 1.3 per as a Freshman–the 6-11 center missed 7 games this past season for his SEC squad and get this, they lost every single one of those games. He also hauled in 6 boards a game and blocked 2.5 shots a contest as well…I asked him about his post LSU playing days which will arrive this time next year and he said,

How fitting that I run into former Los Angeles Lakers (Mr durability) this weekend in the Atlanta airport especially because of the matchup this year in the NBA Finals between the Lakers and the Celtics… AC Green played more consecutive games than any other player in the history of the NBA. He won titles in LA and now he’s winning the hearts of lnner city kids by providing them with opportunity and structure through his childrens foundation. You need to check it out, www.acgreen.com. Of course I asked him to offer his thoughts on the Finals this year between the Lakers and Celtics!! His reply,

Please tell me you know who you are looking at in this picture? Lowly me and former Georgia basketball star Lavon Mercer. an imposing figure for SEC opponents in the late 70’s and for the European league competition he played against while playing for Maccabi tel Aviv in Israel back in 1987. Now, he’s the head basketball coach at Spellman college in Atlanta and doing so much more in bringing kids together from around the world through his tutelage in the game of basketball.

Classic picture with what I consider the worlds’ greatest athlete and here’s why: This picture was taken in Ceour de lane, Idaho with Scott Rigsby. He’s the only double amputee below the knee to finish an ironman. Think about that! he has no legs below his knee and swam 2.1 miles, biked 112 miles and then ran 26 miles! Are you kidding, I would struggle to swim 200 yards, bike 112 feet and run 2 miles. let alone accomplish what Scott has at age 39. it gets even better than that.

What can I say, we all watch Ernie Johnson Jr alongside Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley on TNT during the NBA season and postseason. His ability to weave in and out of highlights and toss to commercial breaks is uncanny. As a fellow broadcaster I can tell you that is no easy task. You have to marvel at his ability to keep the flow throughout the entire show—INSIDE THE NBA.

I took myself out to the ballpark! and after my experience at Wrigley field to see the Cubbies play I have a renewed sense of America’s pastime. I took the L to the game and scalped a ticket outside, they know how to sell tickets in Chicago; hooked myself up with a lower level seat and had this shot taken between innings…The game was classic–Cubs lead going into the bottom of the 8th and..
